UL honors remarkable college

The College of Louisiana at Lafayette has regarded 5 exemplary educators as its 2021 Eminent School course.

The UL Lafayette Foundation sponsors the annual awards. They are the optimum recognition the College confers on school.

Established in 1965, the awards honor educators for their investigate, teaching success, and contributions to their professions and to campus lifestyle.

“Eminent Faculty Awards recognize exemplary faculty members whose devotion to pupils, progressive investigate, service and local community engagement embodies the University’s main mission,” claimed John Blohm, vice president for College Progression and the Foundation’s CEO.

Dr. Jamal Khattak and Dr. Radhey Srivastava are this year’s Distinguished Professor Award honorees. Khattak is a professor of civil engineering. Srivastava is a professor of chemistry.

The Dr. Ray P. Authement Excellence in Instructing Award is named for the University’s fifth president. It has identified school dedication to training and innovation considering the fact that 1992.

This year’s recipients are Sara Birk and Dr. Terrance Chambers. Birk is an affiliate professor of accomplishing arts. Chambers is a professor of mechanical engineering.

The Management Support Award receiver is Kiwana McClung, an associate professor in the School of Architecture and Layout.

The Basis initial introduced the award in 2016. It honors a school member who combines service understanding with classroom instruction to forge abilities and information that learners can apply to local community leadership alternatives.

The University selects the honorees primarily based on tips from a faculty committee. Each recipient gets a $5,000 stipend.

Profiles of the recipients follow.

Sara Birk holds the Coca-Cola/BORSF Endowed Professorship in Executing Arts. She has been acknowledged as an Exceptional Tutorial Advisor several instances.

Birk is region coordinator for the School of Songs and Undertaking Arts’ theater program. She also directs, delivers vocal coaching and acts for College productions.

Her path of Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” attained Birk a Meritorious Achievement Award from the Kennedy Center/American Higher education Theatre Pageant, Region VI.

Dr. Terrence Chambers holds the Donald and Janice Mosing BORSF Endowed Chair in Mechanical Engineering.

His study of photo voltaic and renewable energies was a driving force in the advancement of the Cleco Alternative Power Centre in Crowley, La., and the Photovoltaic Utilized Study and Testing Lab, a solar farm at University Research Park in Lafayette.

Chambers’ other analysis experience contains engineering style, virtual fact, artificial intelligence and genetic algorithms.

Dr. Jamal Khattak retains the McDermott Worldwide and the M. Eloi Girard BORSF professorships in engineering.

He was instrumental in the generation of the University’s Infrastructure and Transportation Products Laboratory and a sustained study method in pavement engineering.

Kiwana McClung is an affiliate professor in the University of Architecture and Style and design.

She is school advisor for the University’s college student chapter of the Countrywide Organization of Minority Architects.

McClung gained the Affiliation of Collegiate Schools of Architecture’s Variety Accomplishment Award, which acknowledges initiatives to enhance range in architecture programs and curricula.

Her analysis passions include things like community and layout development, diversity in design education and cultural spatial scientific tests.

Dr. Radhey Srivastava retains the Marvin and Warren Boudreaux BORSF Professorship in Chemistry.
